Thinking about starting a business

I have been thinking about starting a business lately.

I don’t know exactly what I would do, but I’ve been talking with a lot of my friends about it. I have a friend in Seattle who owns company called We Like To Move It Move It, and we just had a really long conversation about it. We went over a lot of different things like the things he likes about it, and the things he doesn’t like about it.

He also told me I should talk to five or six more entrepreneurs and see what it’s like having a business where I live out here in the middle of nowhere on the island.

My friend told me that he would never go back to working for wages again. He told me his life is totally changed in that he would never go back.

I was like “geez, how much money are you making?”

“Do you really want to know?” he asked. I usually don’t brag and I usually don’t discuss these things, but I’d love to give a future entrepreneur motivation that she could use…”

He told me that his new company was bringing in over $20,000 a month, and that he had 85% profit margin. Then he showed me screenshots of his financials for the third and fourth month of his business being in operation… I was totally blown away. I mean I know business owners make more money than people that work as employees, but this was tremendous.

At $20,000 a month, he must be bringing in at least $240,000 a year. I don’t know about you but for me this be life-changing money.

He went on to explain that as soon as he had a little bit of money (he said five grand) that it was even easier to make more money.

We talked about a lot of other stuff to yes me if there is any colleges in the area that offer business classes. I told him that there wasn’t. So then he suggested that I check out all the classes that are on, he said there’s a ton of them. I’ll have to do that when I’m done writing here.

He also said that if I wanted to start a business, that I should start looking for a mentor or an accountability partner he said that it’s his opinion that like most things in life, the only wrong way to do it to do it alone. One is the worst number of business.

So all in all I’m pretty excited

I know that it will be a long journey and that all need a lot of help from a lot of people, but I know it will be worth it in the end.

Moving Home

When I was 15 my family moved to the West Indies for my fathers work. This would turn out to be a big adventure for me. We were living in New York at the time and I come from a large family so this was going to be a huge undertaking. We were a family of eight ranging in the ages of 2 to 15. We started packing two weeks before we were to move and what a job it was. There were children to care for and meals to cook as before with the added work of sorting through all of our belongings.

The little ones always get so fussy. On the day of the move, things were really stressful and hectic. Finally, we were ready to begin our long journey. We flew into the capital city the flight is 8 hours long. Once there we were able to spend a few days to relax before all our belongings were shipped to our new house. It is a beautiful city with much that is so new to us. There are so many options for different things to try and do. My oldest brothers chose to go windsurfing while the younger children played on the beach with my mother and me. My father had gone on before us to meet the ship that was bringing our belongings.

Two days later we arrived at our new home and started putting things away. There were so many large crates to go through and much work to do. I will never forget how hard this move was with our parents and my father in particular. We had to do everything ourselves and with a large family that amounts to a lot of work and stress. Now it is 50 years later and so much has changed. There are professional moving companies that will come in and load up all your belongings and take them to your new home. Nowadays they will even come and do all the packing for you as well as tearing down furniture and beds and then reassemble them for you when you move in. My parents could have really benefited from a service like that back then and saved themselves a lot of work and so much stress. I’m so glad it is easier and more convenient to move now. My parents would love this!
